There is nothing quite like it in any other sport. When a player like LeBron James will get a steal and have an uncontested dunk after the steal. Before he even starts to jump everyone in the stadium can feel the anticipation of this monster slam dunk that he’s going to deliver and everyone rises out of their seats. Then when James leaves his feet and an eruption of camera flashes go off and seem to make him look like he’s floating through the air in slow motion like some kind of superhuman figure. When he comes down the eruption of the flashes stop and the roar of the crowd takes over the stadium. James might point to a player or the crowd, but as he’s walking back he knows that in that one moment he was part of something special.

The National Basketball Association is a great deal different from any other sporting event and it all starts with the places they play in. Basketball is one of the big three US sports where the fans are sitting on top of the action in a completely enclosed stadium. Since there isn’t anywhere for the noise to go, like escaping out the top of the stadium, every game seems to be louder than any baseball or football game. The noise is always horrible. In no other sport does the home team advantage come into play as much as it does in basketball. Just ask opposing teams about what its like to play in places like Arco Arena in Sacramento, the American Airlines Center in Dallas, or the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, and they’ll all tell you that the noise that those fans make will alter their play at times and will help pump up the home team to reach for new levels of achievement.
